Az 1800-as évek végén a
terület félszigetként nyúlt be 6 km hosszan a Kis-Balatonba, ez nagyobb lehetett, mint a Tihanyi-félsziget. A Zala folyó 4 km-re található a településtől. A Kis-Balaton egyik legkedveltebb kirándulóhelye, a Kányayári-sziget is könnyen megközelíthető a községből. Érdeklődésre tarthat számot a közeli kápolnapusztai bivalyrezervátum is. A községben lovarda működik, mely kocsikázási, lovaglási lehetőséget nyújt. A I település lélekszáma 611, 1990-től önálló község.

You can see from a document to be found in Zalavár that this settlement was inhabited already in Roman times. The village between 1308 and 1326 is mentioned as Magyarad by the sources. There is Balaton-Magyarod in 1794. The anterior constituent Balaton- refers to that the settlement is close to Small Balaton as the posterior constituent refers to a characteristical plant of Zala County, i. e. the hazel bush. The number of inhabitants is 611. At the end of the years of 1800 the area jut out 6 km into the Small-Balaton as a peninsula and it could be larger than the Tihanyi-Peninsula. The Zala River is situated 4 km from the settlement. It is one of the most popular place for excursions of the Small-Balaton, you can easily approach even the Kányavári-Island from the settlement. The near buffalo reserve in Kápolnapuszta could also be interested. There is a riding-school in the village which provides possibilities for coaching and horse-riding.
